Circa Project Application Guidelines
The Circa Project accepts applications from new students on a rolling basis. New courses start every month! If you are looking for some tips for your Circa application, read more below!
All prospective students apply to Circa via our online application.
Circa applications give us the chance to get to know you a bit: about your previous education, what kinds of ideas inspire you, and what goals you want to meet. This application gives us a sense of how you might fit into a Circa program and what kinds of personalized programs would help you meet your goals.
Introduce Yourself
When you apply to Circa, we first want to know more about you! What grade are you in, what have you studied so far in school, and what interests you about the past? We offer customized programs for all of our students, so knowing this information about you can help us tailor your program to your needs and interests. Moreover, we like hearing about the interesting things that are students are up to!
Beyond learning about your coursework so far, we also like knowing a bit about your favorite era in history. There is no right or wrong answer here. Telling us a bit about your favorite period of history helps us understand what kinds of historical ideas compel you. There is no need to choose something obscure—if you enjoy learning about a popular topic that is also widely popular (like the Tudors or World War II), then please let us know!
What You Want to Gain from Circa
There are also some free-response questions that ask you what you want to gain from your time as a Circa student. You will see the following two questions:
Why are you interested in Circa?
What skills do you most want to improve?
We ask that you write around 500 words (about a couple of paragraphs) for each of these essays. These answers should be long enough to give us a full sense of what you are interested in, why you would like to become a Circa student, and what you would like to accomplish during your time with Circa. Your interests and goals do not have to be firm, so don’t worry. In fact, we expect that your interests and goals will change as you develop your skills during a Circa program. We just want to get a sense of where you are currently so as to understand how best to get started.
We recommend that you type your responses somewhere you can edit them, like a word processor, because you cannot save a draft application form prior to submission.
This information, then, helps us determine an appropriate program of study for you. It also helps us determine your dedication to working with Circa. Skill-building takes a lot of active learning—our Circa students are expected to put in the work to learn the skills they need to reach their goals.
Final Thoughts
The application is a chance for us to get to know prospective students and learn how we can best help them reach their goals. In that sense, the fuller your responses, the better we are able to design a program that targets what you would like to work on.
We are also here to answer any questions that you might have as you prepare your application. Don’t be afraid to reach out! Whether you are unsure about what you would like to study at Circa or unsure about an essay response, we are happy to guide you every step of the way. You can contact us here.
